Conservation--Environmental--Protection Groups

  • National Audubon Society is national network of community-based nature centers and chapters, scientific and educational programs, and advocacy on behalf of areas sustaining important bird populations. Audubon engages millions of people of all ages and backgrounds in positive conservation experiences. Audubon's mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.
  • American Bird Conservancy is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to conserve wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. It is the only United States-based group dedicated solely to overcoming the greatest threats facing birds in the Western Hemisphere. A growing human population, consuming ever greater resources, is critically impacting bird populations through habitat destruction, direct mortality from such harmful practices as the unwise use of pesticides, and the introduction of destructive species including domestic cats. ABC believes adequate resources exist to overcome these threats, and that unifying people, organizations, and agencies around common approaches to priority issues is the key to success.   • Project Bird Watch / The Indonesian Parrot Project is an all-volunteer group committed to the conservation of Indonesia's parrots and cockatoos. They are a non-profit corporation, whose mission is: helping to conserve endangered Indonesian Cockatoos and Parrots -- helping provide sustainable income for local villages to reduce trapping of Cockatoos and Parrots -- serving as a source of information and education related to Indonesian Parrots and Cockatoos -- improving the welfare of parrots in captivity using lessons learned from their life in the wild
  • Parrots International (PI) is a tax exempt, non-profit organization with the goal of benefiting parrots everywhere by promoting and fostering international cooperation. PI's ambition is to promote the conservation of endangered parrot species and to improve the lives of companion parrots. They work in cooperation with other conservation organizations, donors, field research teams, responsible aviculturists and parrot clubs to propose, develop and fund conservation projects throughout the world. PI supports conservation via aviculture and emphasize in situ conservation with the premise that . . .conservation happens in the wild. They also promote the education of the public and parrot owners on the proper care and unique requirements of healthy, happy companion parrots. Their website offers some wonderful videos.
  • Tropical Nature - Conservation Through Ecotourism. Tropical Nature is the world leader in Conservation through Ecotourism. They are a non-profit organization that uses ecotourism to effectively create new conservation areas. Tropical Nature heads a system of lodges and travel agencies all working for conservation.
  • Rainforest Preservation Foundation. The mission of the Rainforest Preservation Foundation is to buy and preserve pristine rainforest. For $25.00 they can buy and preserve an acre of rainforest. Furthermore, they educate Brazilians on better farming methods and how to live in the rainforest by gathering and not destroying it. They also reclaim devastated land by reforestation and rotational farming.
